Artists Statement
My art practice has drawn on many sources but the underlying threads that
persist and continue to interest me revolve around the urban landscape,
our built environment and man made objects that reflect who we are as individuals
and as a society. I aim to not only describe a place but to instil the work
with the feelings and emotions of situation, and the people that occupy
a particular space. I often use visual metaphor, symbolism and conceptual
art to achieve these goals.
I have worked with a variety of media over the years including drawing,
painting, sculpture, ceramics, installation and performance art. My core
practice has gradually focused on drawing and painting though I feel that
the medium of choice is the one that best describes what I am trying to
achieve with any one piece. I have experimented with mixing the traditional
materials with those that I find around me on a daily basis as a part of
contemporary life in Australia.
