Ken Farrow
Ken Farrow was born in Suffolk, UK. He studied Fine Arts under Royal Academician
R.A. Campbell RA and Drawing under Miss Hopkins (Mrs. N. Parker) and then
attended Ipswich Civic College where he studied Technical Drawing.
Initially working in watercolour and poster paint, (forerunner of acrylic),
Ken has developed with oils by way of tuition from J. Timmerman and a
long association with the legendary John Cooper, 8 Bells Gallery at Surfers
Paradise.
This association enabled Ken to be in contact on a regular basis with
artists such as Hugh Sawrey, Frank De Silva and Patrick Kilvington all
of whom gave freely of their knowledge and advice over many years. A professional
for some 30 years Ken has studied the techniques and methods of the Australian
impressionists and in particular David Davies, Charles Condor and later
Robert Johnson and John Rowell. These influences have given Ken knowledge
of clarity of light, strength of colour and expansiveness of this inspirational
land.
His career has gone from strength to strength, spanned the continents
and delighted art collectors. His ability to portray horses being recognized
by a 1980 invitation to exhibit a series of racing paintings at the World
Horse Sales of Tattersals, Newmarket, U.K. and invitations 1987 and 1988
to exhibit at the Calgary Stampede, Canada and an open invitation to paint
at the Quarter Horse Stud of Captain Bill Wilkinson, Arizona, U.S.A. In
an interesting piece of “life imitating art” Ken visited Arthur
Boyd A.M. at his “Ramsholt” Suffolk Studio in 1998 and completed
paintings of the area where the esteemed Australian had settled.
Now residing at the magnificent Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Ken Farrow
continues to capture the diversity of landscape from the beaches to the
Glasshouse Mountains and beyond to the outback and mountainous areas of
the Blue Mountains and the Grampians.
