JAMES ANTHONY COX
Jim trained at RMIT Melbourne and worked in industry as a Graphic Designer
for fourteen years in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. On arriving in Queensland
in 1972 he completed his teaching qualifications and taught Graphic Design
and Illustration at the Queensland College of Art (George Street and Seven
Hills campus). He moved to Townsville in 1975 to set up the Art School
at Townsville TAFE (City Campus).
He returned to Brisbane in 1989 and established the Art Department at
the Gateway Campus of the Brisbane Institute of TAFE where he taught Illustration,
Design, Painting and Drawing.
During his years in Townsville he actively exhibited and has won major
Art Awards in Queensland. His work is represented in Cairns and Townsville
Regional Art Galleries and in many Private Collections including the James
Cook University Collection.
As a teacher and practitioner he has made a significant contribution to
the Queensland Art Community over more than thirty years. He retired from
full-time teaching in 1997 and has traveled extensively within Australia
and also China and Japan.
Jim’s other passion is Wildlife and he has published and illustrated
several booklets on Natural History and also illustrated for various publishing
houses including Jacaranda Press and Steve Parish Publications.
In 2002 he moved to Montville where he combines his two major interests
of Natural History and Art making. Jim is a member of COMA, Collaboration
of Maleny Artists.
Jim is also a founding member of Montville community Arts hosting a weekly
life drawing session under their umbrella in his Montville Studio. Jim also
conducts workshops for other Sunshine Coast Art groups in painting and drawing.
