David Nolan creates striking kiln formed glass with encased vitreous enamels. He is interested in bold colour combinations complimented by strong, clear design lines. Recurring themes in the work are the use of repetitive pattern and texture combinations that play with perceptions of the solid object. Sometimes this tightly ordered pattern is juxataposed with the controlled chaos produced by the crackle effect seen in some pieces. The archetypal symbolism represented by basic lines, shapes and their proportional relationships interests David greatly.
