Carmel Farrow
Carmel is a painter in oils, acrylics and water colours. Born in Kilcoy
Queensland, she took up painting seriously in 1985 by way of studies in
water colours with known artists Lois Beummer and Joseph Zbukvic. Her studies
continued at Sunshine Coast TAFE College where she did courses in life drawing.
During the period from 1985 to date, her time was mainly spent exploring
the countryside with sketch pad and camera. This had taken her to the Queensland
border with New South Wales and up to Cairns. A bush enthusiast to begin
with, her research has taken her from river bed to mountain top seeking
her subject matter.
Since 1996 she decide to paint in oils and acrylics exclusively and chose
to study with Ken Farrow in order to gain expertise in method, technique
and colour. From this experience Carmel has developed her own methods in
oils and acrylics and has become a fine colourist in both mediums. Her chosen
specialist subject matter is that of still life and the female character,
where her daughter Chantelle is a constant inspiration. These works are
in demand both here and internationally because of her brillant use of colour
and depiction of 'character' within each individual piece. They vary from
the 'Modern Miss' to 'Miss Elegance' and back to 'Ladies of Society'. Her
innate female intuition relating to her work is exceptional and is apparent
in the pasion and expression that is the vital element of each piece.
Carmel did a study tour of England and Scotland in 1998 with husband, Ken
Farrow, and has broadened her appreciation by way of viewing some of t he
master pieces of the world, in the National Gallery London, Sheffield City
Gallery, The Sir Alfred Munnings Museum and many commercial galleries. The
highlight of this tour was a meeting with Arthur Boyd at Ramsholt in Suffolk.
She continues to expand her market both here and internationally with works
in collections in England, Germany, USA, NZ, Russia and Europe.
