Sancha McGilchrist had been involved in her chosen field of artistic endeavour as a ballet teacher for over 3 decades, until her "sea change" landed her in Eumundi, and then onto Noosa Heads more recently.
Understandably her training as a dedicated young classical ballerina, who had auditioned for the Australian Ballet corps, brought with it all of the rigid, highly structured formal constraints that are inherent in this classical form of dance.
What a revelation then when she has found a new outlet for her expression in semi-abstract, landscape representational paintings based on her travels and surroundings!
Sancha can find an image and photograph a subject or just sketch from nature and with her new found freedom of expression, let the initial image develop on the canvas as she paints, and explores the feel of the original idea until the process "tells her it's finished".
This ability to allow the painting to unfold without structured guidelines is truly a freedom of experience totally at odds with her former profession. Participating in many workshops with highly regarded artists like Bella Ivanyi and Brian Roberts have enabled her to realise this approach.
It is simple to say that she has been searching for this form of expression - looking with a view to finding or recognising something not yet seen.
