Deann has been painting all of her life for pleasure, but in the last fifteen years has approached her work in a more professional manner. She has held, over that period of time, many solo and combined exhibitions and received art prizes and awards throughout Queensland, including Brisbane, Toowoomba, the coast and hinterland resort areas.
Several years ago Deann had her own gallery in Maleny, but now chooses to work from home. She has exhibited in 'Main Street Gallery' and 'Lizzart' in Montville, 'David Linton Furniture' and 'Holden's Gallery in Maleny, 'Cool Art Gallery' at Coolum Beach, 'Sinc Design' Peregian', 'Gallery 2' Brisbane and many more. She has works hanging in private collections throughout Australia , Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Canada, U.S.A, Denmark and the U.K.
Deann's work is mostly figurative, painted in a contemporary style. Often the paintings feature characters from another place and time, sometimes with a touch of whimsy, humor or satire. In almost every case the subject matter is entirely imaginary. I very rarely paint from life, or in a representative mode. She occasionally paints still life, once again mostly imaginary. Other work includes imaginary landscapes or cityscapes; nudes and abstracts.
Deann enjoys using a variety of materials, usually in combination, as mixed media. They include oils, oil pastels, tar and shellac, collage, acrylics, inks and watercolors. The work is, in the main, produced on stretched canvas, board, heavy card or paper.
"I hope to continue in my artistic endeavors and in the process, bring enjoyment to those who view and purchase my work".
