Broc Cattley

Fine woodwork by Broc Cattley

Broc Cattley's passion for wood turning and sculptural work began at the age of 14, through school. It didn't take much persuading for Broc's Dad to build him his first lathe - as it kept him away from his! Broc's turning is among the finest in technique anywhere, and expresses the natural qualities and features or flaws in the timbers he turns.

This new found passion soon became an avenue to express his artistic desires. Broc Cattley spent the first half of his life growing up in Papua New Guinea; he saw this as fortunate as he got to work with some of PNG's best timber. He has collected many interesting salvaged timbers to work with from PNG and from around Australia.

Broc Cattley has also spent the last 8 years in QLD refining his skills in the marine industry as a professional cabinet maker working on custom built pleasure boats, through to multi million dollar super yachts.

Over the years Broc Cattley's passion has only grown stronger. The work he produces not only comes from his imagination, but is led by the timber itself.

Each new piece of work became a challenge to create a form that gave justice to the raw material. The majority of Broc Cattley's work is derived out of recycled and salvaged timber.

"I believe there are enough raw materials already on the ground without having to cut more down."

Broc Cattley continuously strives to create wonderful works of art that are aesthetically pleasing and display the best qualities in the natural medium, timber, through the hands of a highly skilled artisan maker.
